- The US accounts for 5.35 billion pounds of PET a year. Less than one third is recycled.
- For every pound of recycled PET flake used, energy use is reduced by 84%; greenhouse gas emission by 71%.
- Recycling a ton of PET containers saves 7.4 cubic yards of landfill space.
- The energy saved by recycling one plastic bottle can power a computer for 25 minutes.
Recycling is an essential tool in reducing carbon emissions and environmental waste. By turning used PET bottles into new PET bottles and products, recycling conserves virgin resources, reduces landfill, and capitalizes on the energy already invested in making existing plastic products. The PET resin offered by CarbonLITE will have been processed using a method that has received an LNO (letter of non-objection) from the FDA, allowing it to be used at levels up to 100% recycled content in the manufacture of PET bottles and containers for direct contact with all food types under cold fill and hot fill conditions.
